Spotlight Not Working on Some Users | Multi User PC

Today we will discuss spotlight not working on some users. When you have a multi-user Windows 10 PC, say it user A, B, and C. Sometimes Windows Spotlight feature work on A and B User but not working on C user. It can also work on one user only, such as work for A user but didn’t work on B and C user. This is a very common problem on Windows Spotlight Features.

The Cause of the Problem

The cause of this problem is various, and there are no exact problems. Because A user and B user has a different style in using a PC, so they have different software inside. Software crash can cause spotlight not working. So if the C user software causing spotlight feature, it doesn’t affect another user spotlight. On this case, windows spotlight is only stop working on C User, but still working on A and B user.

How to Fix

To fix this problem, you must have PowerShell (command prompt) access. If you only have a Standard User account, you must enable Administrator access on your account to run the PowerShell commands, otherwise it will re-install the lock screen on the Administrator account you elevated Powershell with. As the example, spotlight on the C user didn’t work, but work on A and B user. Below is the full step on how to fix the problem:

1. Log in as C user and go to C:\Users\<user you want fixed>\AppData\Local\Packages (make sure another account is logged out). May need to add your user to have read/write permission to <user you want fixed folder>

2. Rename Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy to Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy Old

3. Log out, log in as <user you want fixed>. Open Administrator Powershell

4. Type
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register “$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode}

5. Right-click your desktop, Personalize -> Lock Screen -> Switch to Slideshow or Picture, switch back to Windows Spotlight, a new image should load in preview

6. Win + L key to see if the new image appears

7. Unlock the computer and delete the old “Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy Old”, if the fix worked.
